How I spent my summer vacation - Part 1 of 2 parts
Dan Winters
As the plane touched down at Beirut International Airport many of the passengers applauded. This was one of the first flights to land at the airport since the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in July 2006.
My trip to Lebanon was a project of the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center (RMP&JC), headquartered in Boulder, and also the Coalition for Peace and Justice in the Middle East, headquartered in Denver. Members had contributed funds and an airline ticket to get me to Lebanon to distribute funds donated by individual members to grass roots organizations. In addition, I was planning to start a one person office to help facilitate getting information back to the United States.
This is part 1 of 2 parts. What follows are excerpts, and some editing, from a blog I wrote at http://www.daninlebanon.blogspot.com which readers can visit to read the full text of part 1 and also the full text of what will be part 2 in the next newsletter.
